Sara Lukkonen officially started C-Koop beads in 1999. However, the seeds for the business were sown back in the mid 1970's, when Sara started out fusing glass enamel to copper using the traditional kiln method. She dabbled in making beads and selling them on leather strands as a hobby. She found the traditional method of fusing to be quite time consuming and was excited to discover "torch enameling" and developed a new method for fusing glass to metal using a propane torch.
Life and family put the beads on the back burner for a while, until Sara decided it would be fun to make beads again. When her boys were young, she set up a studio in the "chicken koop", and C-Koop Beads was born. Sara continues to develop her technique and is still fascinated by enamel in the molten state and the colors she can achieve. No two beads are exactly alike making her beads extremely unique and beautiful.
